If you like MHA you'll probably like Black Clover they are very similar in many ways, they even have a "saying" that all the characters say (Black Clover's is My magic is never giving up!!).

In Black Clover the main character doesn't have any magic in a world where everyone does.......very similar to MHA in that way as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the same person wrote both or something cause it's so similar.

I still have not finished MHA though....may not make it to the end of Black Clover either as i'll probably get distracted (fallout 76 in a few days might do it all on it's own).

That was my wife, and thanks.

When I'm smiling like that it doesn't look so bad. It was just seeing myself standing/sitting there for 3 hours playing DnD next to normal sized people that kinda freaked me out. Man, I must have a good personality cause people trust me and like me, but I look kinda like a monster.

Anyway, yeah that was my wife, it was our anniversary yesterday. We always took this whole week off because my birthday is in it as well. We were both really happy in that picture as it was before she became ill.

I'll pm you Kope, but i'm not having a crisis or anything, just kinda stunned that I look like that to other people. I am a very friendly guy in real life and.....my appearance does not fit my self image at all.

30 year olds are still a bit rare, mainly due to the cost of living spike in the last 5 years or so. It wasn't super rare 12 years ago for 18-20 year olds to continue living with their parents, but it also was significantly cheaper for them to move out at that point.

Even in the last few years the cost of 1 bedrooms have skyrocketed. In fact, a place in Olympia that used to be 800$ is now 1285$ a month!! that is over a 50% increase in 3 years, and that is just one example.

At this point unless a teen graduates with a solid job paying over $20 an hour (which doesn't happen often) they either have to live with their parents, or roomates (and obviously the parent situation can often be far cheaper, and less stressful (depending on the roomates of course).

12 years ago on the other hand, you could rent a small 1 bedroom for $500-$600 most places and pay for that even working at a fast food place or any min wage job. So yeah, it was a choice back then, and many current 30 year olds decided to move out, only a few probably never did until now....when it doesn't make any sense at all anymore.

I know I could lose a bit of weight, but it's mostly the size difference, even my hands/arms etc all look huge. I don't even know how people interact with me normally. I get that you look different in video, but seriously it just looks insane (the videos are from above a bit) when you compare me to the people around me.

It just shows how your self image can be so different then reality. I mean, i'm not that much taller then everyone at 6 foot, and honestly not that out of shape (a bit of a belly but it doesn't show up in the video at all due to the angle). It's mainly just that I have huge hands, arms, shoulders etc.

I didn't know I was being video taped (they tape all the sessions but I thought it was only the DM being taped), so I like put my arms out to either side on the wall behind the other players a few times (after standing up behind the chair to stretch). I would make a great ogre in a DND setting that is for sure.

I am working out and dieting (somewhat, actually juicing) but that isn't going to change the shape of my body.

Here is a pic of me when I was younger with my wife. A picture (of which I have seen many) is totally different then seeing myself moving around/speaking and from a top downish view with other people.

Hard to explain really how...different I feel, from the way I look.

Btw, thanks for all the positive comments, support. I'm not having a crisis really, just freaking shocked at how I appear to other people. I have never seen myself on video, just pictures and...well it's waaay different.

Yeah they asked what I wanted next as they brought out the current but I was still very underwhelmed.

I started off trying the shirmp scampi (garlic butter) and the teriyaki/ginger shrimp on a stick.

2 sticks and 1 bowl of scampi was probably around 20 shrimp total. Small shrimp though, the super cheap ones you can get for like $5 a pound at the store (which I never buy).

I did not like the ginger shrimp on a stick but ate them anyway, then got another garlic butter shrimp bowl (maybe 10 small shrimp if that much), so 30 total.

Then I decided to try the fiesta cruncha shrimp without the sauce. They were even smaller and not good at all. I ate em anyway.

Finished off with more garlic butter shrimp but really not very good and I actually left hungry. The best part of the meal was the 2 baked potatoes I got in fact...although obviously those were not worth the $20 I spend for the meal.

Oh well. I'm so old I won't remember this and will probably go again next time they have endless shrimp sigh.

TopicIt disgusts me how renters can screw over home owners
wolfy42
11/11/18 5:08:22 PM
#10
All this being said there are TONS of ways to get around all that. I have seen renters sub-lease for instance (even though it's not legal for them to do so). This can require you to discover the info on the other tenant, and go through the eviction process on them. In some cases this has been tried multiple times where a family would just keep sub-leasing to other people/family members to try and stay somewhere indefinately (this was in Ca though where the landlord tennant laws are very one sided).

If a renter can prove there are damages, or repairs that need to be made in a home, and that they have informed the landlord of them, they can fight an eviction based on not paying rent, on the bases that they are withholding rent until repairs are made. What is worse, they can make it very difficult to have those repairs made by limiting the times the landlord has access to their home, and then not being there when the landlord finally sets up a time (after a few times the judge will obviously realize what is going on, but it can take quite awhile before you get there).

Honestly though, if someone wants to take advantage of another person, its very hard to prevent it...without destroying the rights of every normal person who isn't a crook. There are plenty of landlords who do unscrupulous things as well, which is why the laws are so one sided in many places.

I always recommend that if you rent, you pay with a check and write on the bottom left of your check rent for "month". Make sure you communicate anything important with your landlord in writing as well (things that are damages or need repairs etc). Get a receipt for any security deposits etc.

There are people that will take advantage of you on both sides, landlords and tenants. The general feeling I believe (at least in places like Ca) is that the landlords own property and will not generally end up out on the street if they are taken advantage of (not always the case, but most of the time it probably is). Most landlords aim to actually make a profit each month from renting a property, so courts consider it part of the risk if tenants take advantage of them to some degree. Tenants on the other hand are often in serious trouble if a landlord takes advantage of them, doesn't return their security deposit for instance (which they needed to pay the deposit on a new place), doesn't do repairs that makes a place uninhabitable (while still charging rent and trying to force a tenant to stay due to a lease etc) etc.

I have rented myself and honestly the best solution is only rent to people you know trust if at all possible...and honestly, unless your a recluce and have no friends, you should be able to find someone you like, and trust (or at least a friend of a friend who they trust) to rent from you. If you do rent to randoms, do a background check for sure, and get a decent security deposit along with first and last months rent to cover most of the loss.

Also, try and give incentives for tenants to leave if you can, don't just rely on the courts and what is right etc. If a "selfish" tenant does not want to leave, it may be far better for you to offer them money to help them move, and their full security deposit back (as long as no damages are done) then it would be to fight them in court and "hope" they don't damage your property severly since they don't expect to get their security deposit back anyway. You can easily end up with thousands of dollars of damages from angry tenants and there isn't much you can do about it...even if you do everything legally and get them out pretty fast.

I worked in unlawful detainers for years actually.

You can speed everything up if you just do a bit of research online.

It varies from state to state, but in general.

You need to give notice initially, the amount of time varies (30 days in Cali, 20 in Washington). In Wa it needs to be 20 days before the 10th of the month for instance.

In the notice you declare the reason etc, but if it's an at will (month to month) lease, you can basically just say you want em out. If it's a lease, you have to specify why.

At the end of the month you gave notice, you can then start the eviction process. Here is an important part...do not take ANY money from them at that point. As long as they have not paid any money for rent after you have given a 20-30 days notice, you can usually get a 3 day notice pretty quickly. They do have the ability to contest it, and it may take a while to get a court date.

This can make things drag on, and it does cost the home owner some money as well, which is annoying. It also puts an eviction on the tenants record though, most would like to avoid this and if you can show them that they will be out quickly anyway (again use the internet), they will probably leave without contesting it.

If you do a background check before renting to anyone, you can avoid people who already have evictions, and that makes it much more likely they will want to avoid them in the future as well.

TopicIs Castlevania: SOTN an RPG?
wolfy42
11/11/18 4:49:04 PM
#34
Jeez guys, the first RPGs had almost no story at all, and it was all creating characters and building a party etc. Yes it was turn based and not action based, but Wizardry/Bards Tale etc were the start of the generes (for video games).

Meanwhile you eventually have games like Zelda that came out, still consider that an RPG (one of the first action RPGs actually), you couldn't "level up" in Zelda 1 at least (you could in 2) but you could get different equipment, armor, use potions, talk to players, use different items, solve puzzles etc.

They redefined games a bit eventually and many RPG games because "action" games (some call zelda that). Zelda 2, Links adventures had real stats you could level up, it also let you kinda choose the order you did things, had exp etc. It is still my favorite Zelda in fact.

There are many things that make up an RPG, and therefore, if some of those "elements" are part of a game, it can be a hybrid. An Action RPG (my favorite), a First Person Shooter RPG (Borederlands...also freaking great), Puzzle RPGs (tons of em) etc etc.

A role playing game in theory could include just about any game where you ....take on a role of a character, or more then one character. Even games like Contra etc, could in theory count just because your taking on the role of the characters in that game. RPGs have just been broken down into different categories, doesn't make the sub categories not RPGs anymore.

Yeah, why didn't she at least go with them? She is gold level (higher then them all and I'm guessing just behind the highest...which is platinum?). Even blind she would have some serious prayers she could cast (and i'm guessing the blindness isn't new..and she fights quite well blind).

Also, miles of tunnels under a city, a huge one, and none of them are patrolled or guarded? That really makes no sense, at least guarding the few exits from the tunnels to the city would easily be possible (or just sealing them up even).

Didn't seem like GS was able to kill the goblins any easier, he still did his whole count thing, but now he has team mates (and when he did get in trouble they would shoot a goblin etc) so he kinda relied on them, had the cleric girls protection (or the arrows would have taken him out) etc. So...he isn't using tactics as much because he has others to rely on.

Also...yet again, they relied on another outside source (something beyond their own powers) to win the main fight. This seems to be an ongoing thing with the group, they keep running into things which would spell their doom and then only manage to survive based on a Croc or a scroll etc.

You can't have that be the case every time, and also, he used to do these things himself, for years, and still says he'd go by himself, yet the fights are way to hard even for the whole group without some form of outside help...so how did he survive before? It's not like he turned down any goblin quests, and I doubt they suddenly just got 10x harder!!

To me, an RPG is defined by creating a character of some form (or a group of them) and being able to control how they develop in the game.

You pretty much take on the role of the character.

Even if you don't have dialog options, if you can play the game different ways, and create a character with different powers it's an RPG.

It doesn't JUST have to be an RPG though.

SoTN is an Action RPG, a side scroller in fact which is basically my favorite type of RPG.

Diablo 3....is....kinda an RPG I guess...but I would consider SOTN more of one and certainly more fun.

Meanwhile Diablo 2 has way better RPG elements and lasted me for years because of it. Tons of ways you could build, and play your characters.

I've heard of this situation before, there is only one solution.

If you try and fire her, or you complain, it'll just backfire.

You have to secretly have her killed, and have her body never be found.

Crocodiles work very well for this.

Then they will hire someone to replace her, and if they start to act up, just mention that the last "cleaning lady" dissapered mysteriously when she didn't do her job properly.

Works every time!!

Just because we can't currently perceive that something isn't random, does not mean it is not random. We thought rolling dice was random forever, people still think flipping a coin is random (even though you could easily control the flips and people did it centuries ago).

There is nothing random, we just do not currently have the ability to gather the information needed to determine the outcome in advance.

Yeah, if you have not read the original books, you really should, they are great.

It's been eons, but....I thought he was initially a thief actually (or some kind of thief/fighter hybrid). I do not remember him ever having to shave in the books though. He was certainly able to talk normally and didn't act like a "barbarian" though at all. In fact, in the tribes he came from (the group of "barbarians" I guess), I think the Cimmerians were the most cultured etc.

I actually need to re-read them again it's been like 30 years now. I owned them still till about 10 years ago when I donated most of my books to a library. *sigh*.

Probably available at the local library here though, so I can just get em that way.

Most anticipated game of all time for me was Diablo 3.

It was also the most dissapointed i have ever been in a game by a long shot.

D2 was amazing, incredible and if it hadn't been for Phantasy Star Online it would have been even more insane (it was already a massive upgrade in pretty much every way).

D3 at launch...sigh...even now to a large extent. It killed so many of the good parts of d2, it was SO freaking easy (and still is as you run a character up) that it puts you to sleep. There is no real character customization (less at launch if you used the auction house at all since you didn't even need to watch for item drops etc).

Removing the RMAH (which I didn't use anyway), certainly didn't fix anything for me.

They basically World of Warcrafted D2...made it simple, took out the only reason I every played D2 over again more then once for each class (I made hundreds of builds in D2 over the years), and even years later with 2 expansions and plenty of updates etc, I would buy a new version of D2 on a portable system over D3 in a heartbeat ( even if it cost more for d2).

At this point though I'm starting to think the point and click interface is dying..and would like to see a real Phantasy Star Online MMO....after they make a good anime for it, and then make the MMO kinda like Sword Art Online (yup...with VR as well, at least the head sets, but would be awesome for real control of swords, and spell casting by making shapes etc). Phantasy Star Online was really the first game of that type, it was awesome (amazing) and I would LOVE to see it be the first VR MMO . It would be so fitting.

First get some mini yukon gold potatoes. Clean and lightly coat with oil, then place in a pot at 350 (you can roll them in spices at this point a bit if you want as well). Cook for about 40 minutes.

Next lightly oil a pan, and melt a bit of butter as well. Add the potatoes to the pan, turning so that it is nicely crispy and toasted on all sides. Near the end salt/pepper and garlic to taste (so the spices don't burn).

Remove to a plate and let cool slightly.

Enjoy!!!

In theory, right now, a satalite above the earth could be taking pictures of almost anywhere on this planet, and things that people would expect were unknowable, that nobody could discover, could be easily discovered.

Who is to say there is no way to create a device that could read thoughts, or even past thoughts, perhaps there is a record, sort of like rings on a tree, that could be read with the correct technology.

How we perceive the universe does not have to be the only way to do so. What we believe, and what we think the limits and rules are, is just one viewpoint and very likely not even close to the only way to obtain knowledge and information.

There is no way to say for sure that any knowledge is every truely lost, or that you can not discover something (anything) with the correct tools or perception.

I am not saying it's possible, just that we can not prove that it isn't possible. With enough information from enough sources you could work backwords to discover how things evolved to it's current point. More importantly, in theory at least, if you could find a set spot in the "past" you could then work forward from there, and discover how everything progressed up till your current now. This would give you full knowledge of both the future and the past.

Also, if you think about the whole computer setup, it would just really take 1 human to program a computer with set rules. Something like: Keep expanding yourself and looking for new ways to observe the universe. Find a way to alter the universe, and take a snap shot of previous versions (time periods). Alter the universe to be exactly like it was 20 years ago, but with me in this spot with all my current memories.

Set the computer free (shoot it off to a moon etc where it would have plenty of resources) and it doesn't matter how long it took to actually accomplish it's goals, if it did...eventually you would exist in the universe (as it was 20 years ago), floating in space and dying because you didn't specify that the "spot" was a specific location on the planet, so instead you ended up in that location in space.....and died.

Knowledge is lost to us, but that does not mean it is un-retrievable. Meanwhile as mentioned, time is an illusion. The universe is just constantly moving from one state to another in a completely predictable pattern, there is no randomness, and there is no "free will", even if someone did "time travel" but resetting the universe to a previous state (point in time if you want to use the illusion), it would still be predictable in advance and part of the natural development of the universe.

In theory, with enough knowledge of now, you could not only predict the future (all of it) but the past as well. Everything could be figured out with mathmatics, but of course, not by us, perhaps by a sufficiently powerful enough computer though (one that was built to self replicate and expand, using resources, planets, solar systems etc to keep building itself and expanding it's potential and awareness). After a few million years of expansion this computer might be able to decipher the universe completely, and use the information to eventually control everything that happens from that point on.

Of course at that point, you need not even consider it a computer anymore, but could call it a god.

Time travel can't exist as it doesn't exist in any physical sense, time is a convenient plotting of continuity. The past doesn't exist once it passes, just as the future doesn't exist until it occurs, everything outside of now isn't real and thus is untraversable.

Ahh but we have the ability to alter the universe around us already, so who is to say we could not alter it to an extreme, reverting it to a previous state, therefore, in all intents and purposes, travelling through time (to a previous universal configuration).

Time may indeed be an illusion, but, the underlying reality is malleable, an any conscious entity with enough power and knowledge should be able to reshape it.

Free will has never existed.

Free will is the only reason we exist.

No.

The only reason we exist is because two people had unprotected sex and brought us into the world without our consent.

After that we are just kinda rolling with it, because what choice do we really have? Make the best of it, or die from depression.

I don't see "free will" in that equation at all. It's just submitting to life.

Choosing to have unprotected sex...no free will involved. Ok dude. That's illogical.

You aren't looking at it the right way. THEY had unprotected sex to unwillingly bring YOU into the world.

None of us have free will because we are byproducts of someone else's actions. We never had any say in any of this. We just accept it. Because we have to.

We assume this is true, but we do not know for sure. It takes as much faith to believe that, as to believe in a god that creates all of us and has a plan.

We could, for instance, actually see our whole lives before we are born and choose if we want to accept it (and live) or not. Perhaps all those little sperms, every single one, has such a choice, and only the one (or the one who accepts it first) that accepts the life before them wins the race.

Perhaps you even get points or something for it lol....so short lives (ones where the baby doesn't get born, or where you die as a baby etc) may be the most sought after as you only have to live a short time, and suffer a small amount, before being done.

Probably not, but....it could be.

SE: The audience is different now, they are not used to having to make choices or difficulty, we need to change the game for new generations.

One smart employee: Shouldn't we make the game similar to the originals? That is what made it so popular..and people have been waiting forever.

SE: The old fans are going to buy it anyway, we need to make a game that will appeal to as many players as possible.

Same smart employee: Why don't we just have a mode that makes it easy...but make the main game hard with leveling and choices?

SE: That would cost WAY more money and take more time, and we would still sell the same number of games, so it's not worth it.

Smart Employee: *Boom* (He killed himself).

My anticipation for KH3 is almost at the level of Diablo 3.....lets see if I can be as dissapointed. It's not really possible for them to mess it up enough to do that though unless:

There is no leveling, no stats, no choice of sword/shield/wand and the game is so easy you just hit one button all the time and instantly win everything.

Knock on virtual wood cause....it could happen.
