Holy s***... almost that exact same thing happened to me 5 years ago...
only differences were:
dude was wearing a NY Yankees baseball cap instead of a fedora, the girl who got shot was older (like 7 or 8), I said I was agnostic (not an atheist), I guillotine choked him instead of full nelson and it was the FBI who hauled the dude out, not the cops.
That's seriously f***ing eerie though O_O
and awesome work on your part. Religious people and atheists would agree that you certainly are a hero. There's no telling how many more innocent lives would have been taken had you not selflessly intervened. I commend you, sir
