If person A went "Gay marriage is ruining marriage" and person B went "but you were just divorced!", then that counts. If person A goes "gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage" and person B goes "marriage has no inherent sanctity, and here are some examples of that" that is not an example of tu quoque.
I took it as Person A saying "gay marriage is ruining the sanctity of marriage" and person B goes "Straight people are already doing that" which is tu quoque
