D2 you can't master every ability available to your class to max efficiency-- only 5 at the very most, less if you had a 20 point skill that was mostly for synergy. Sure respec exists but you still had to only 110 skill points and 30 skills to distribute up to 20 points to.
The having to dump more levels into a specific skill thing was nice. Made characters less versatile yes but losing versatility makes characters feel more individual.
