"People have different opinions" is the most overstated and trolltastic standard argument in discussions like this. It never fails to come up,and usually ruins the discussion.
Truth is, it's a bullcrap argument. There is such a thing as objective quality, especially when it comes to media, including music. Yes, people like different things. But that's because a lot of people like bad things. These are people who don't understand the topic in question.
People with no sense of musicality like bad music because they don't understand what makes music good. People who are afraid to be different or want to fit in with their friends like bad music to be accepted. People who think a band is just too cool on stage like bad music because... the band looks cool on stage. There's tons of reasons why people like bad music. Still doesn't make it a valid opinion to call it good.
It's the same with movies or anything else. As for the original topic, yes, girls are more likely to like bad things. That's because even moreso than men, women tend to want to fit in. You can always be sure that in any given circle of girls, everyone will like the same things. Then in another group of girls, they'll all like something else. I get the feeling that they often simply don't form thoughtful opinions about what they like and not. Not saying everyone is like this, of course, and it sure isn't exclusive to girls, but women are predisposed to this mentality, just like men are predisposed to love competition. Instincts and all that.
Then who is to judge what's good and what's bad? Usually it's simple. Those who have an innate understanding of and deep passion for the field in question. I've gone to animation and film school in addition to having played every game under the sun, so I can definitely say objectively whether a visual piece of fiction is good or bad. But there's no way I can say anything valid about sports for instance.
