Jobe Smith was a mentally challenged lawnkeeper, until a combination of virtual reality experiments and aggression enhancing drugs enhanced his intelligence to super genius levels. Jobe gained vast powers of telepathy and telekinesis, capable of reducing men to vegetative states by destroying their minds. Jobe would later abandon his physical body entirely to become energy within the world's communication systems, though this is him before he reached that state.
