If you hack his face while he's charging the fireball, there's a chance you'll shoot it right back at him. Naturally, this is a pretty ballsy move even by DMC standards.
That and his face is his weak spot (not his back, something I didn't find out until after DMD).
Yeah, you're best off just stingering when he does the fireball.
Even if his face is supposed to be his only weak spot, you can still treat his back like a weak spot, even if it's only because of wonky hit detection.
