He gets his power from The Audience and does things to amuse and entertain The Audience. This is all true.
OTOH, he is one of those guys that feels he knows what is best for everyone so if he thinks it will be more entertaining to win despite The Audience wanting him to lose, he'll win.
Unless there are some major plot points I'm forgetting/misremembering from CC.
Nah. It's pretty much on the money. People assumed he was bound to the Audience. He's master of his realm and just does things to entertain them. He's mostly his own slave, as when he refused to mind control his servant and let him go and make a universe instead.
