Twilight Sparkle won't live through a gunshot, and he's going to just shoot it and get it over with immediately. I'd be much more inclined to believe if anyone's gonna be held up at all on attacking at first sight, it's the pony.
That, and shooting a bullet goes faster than casting a spell a lot of times.
