The Rules:

-Matches will last exactly 24 hours. Votes after that much time has elapsed will not be counted, even if a new topic hasn't gone up yet.
-This is a contest to determine which character is the most *powerful*. Vote only for the character you think would win in a fight, not the one who's funnier, cooler, or sexier. If you don't do that I can't count your vote.
-BOLD YOUR VOTE. Unbolded votes will NOT be counted.
-Rallying is allowed. Alts are not.
-Fights will take place in a neutral terrain. This does not necessarily mean a *featureless* terrain: assume that both characters will have a chance to use all of their skills to the fullest here, barring setting-specific abilities and anything that requires the presence of multiple enemies (but see below).
-Characters start the fight alone. They don't bring allies with them, like Kerrigan and the Zerg Swarm for instance. Summons are allowed though, provided they're brought once combat has started.
-Fighters retain their usual personalities. They won't fight to kill unless that's their MO, and won't spam their best attacks to win unless, again, that's how they act in their original media.
-Similarly, fighters are unaware of their opponents capabilities at the start of the fight unless their powers facilitate them information (like knowing all there is to know in the universe - this would include who the opponent is and what he can do, as well as weaknesses)
-You don't have to justify your vote, but it helps. If you feel like you can add something to the debate, go right ahead!
-Seriously, BOLD THE VOTE. So important it bears repeating.
-Bracket Link, for viewing past results and future matches:
http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?&tid=408528&tclass=

Past Results:
The final match of the Devil Detective Division (try saying that out loud five times in a row) wasn't even close: Majin Buu demolished Super Sonic en route to an easy win. He will face RST GANON1025 in the next round!. Votals: 7-16.

(1) Twilight Sparkle
external image
From My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Twilight Sparkle is an unicorn, tied to the element of magic. Combined with her studious nature, her racial knack for the art gives her a raw ability with magic not seen over a millennium. She is capable of telekinesis, brief bursts of teleportation, and the ability to transform inanimate objects and creatures alike to other things. This abilities become harder to control when under stress, however, and may backfire on her in times of extreme duress.

vs.

(8)Bryan Mills
external image
From Taken, Bryan Mills is an expert ex-CIA hitman. A ruthless, calculating fighter, he is a master of close-combat techniques and a complete pragmatist when it comes to a brawl. He never shows a hesitance to fight dirty, hitting opponents where they are weak and aiming to kill whenever it is necessary. He is also a skilled shooter, and in spite of pushing late middle age or creeping into his old age, capable of sustaining knife and gunshot wounds and still fighting.

Alright, I think I've got a pretty convincing argument lined up here. My wife being a big fan of the show, and watching all the episodes multiple times with me in the room is finally paying off.

First things first, let's get three things that will be brought up for Twilight out of the way: the first being Twilight going "Ponyta" in the episode "Feeling Pinkie Keen". As was pointed out in the discussion topic, but I feel bares repeating, this is NOT Twilight showing the ability to suddenly shoot fire from her body. This was a cartoon visual gag, in line with a character's head turning into a steam whistle. It's not an actual ability of hers. The second is that bubble she produced in the episode that debuted today: "The Return of Harmony - Part 2". This point shouldn't be too confusing, but let's make it perfectly clear; said bubble was a bubble of friendship, as was clearly shown by it erasing a tiny bit of chaos when it landed on the ground. It is not a projectile shield that she can carry around with her. The third is Twilight's powers going haywire and superpowerful in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles", where she turns Spike from egg to huge dragon, her parents into stone, and does some other wacky, insane things before Celestia calms her. Now, this is obviously a latent power that COULD be delved into, but it's not really possible in this scenario. This only happened to Twilight during a time of high stress, while subsequently exposed to the Sonic Rainboom. While stress, if the battle were prolonged, would be possible, the Sonic Rainboom is not happening in this fight, period. Not to mention I don't think this fight would be prolonged. More on that in a second.

Next, there are no guns in the MLP universe. Bryan's pistol a completely foreign object to Twilight. That alone will cause her some problems, at least with sudden confusion. Now, if she could see the bullets coming, I have few doubts Twilight would be able to stop them. But that's just it; she won't see the bullets. Once again referring to "Feeling Pinkie Keen", Twilight was clearly shown to not have sufficient reaction time to avoid an opening door, even after ample warning from Pinkie Pie. Also, in the episode "Stare Master", while not shown on camera, Twilight is seen having been turned to stone by the cockatrice, meaning she was not quick enough (Or not knowledgable enough on the beast, either of which applies to this argument in the form of the gun) to avoid its gaze. This, combined with the general naivity that she is shown to have throughout the series (The best example of which would be "The Return of Harmony - Part 1", in which she can't sense something that is clearly wrong with her friends), makes the thought of her being able to figure out what a gun does and prepare for an incoming bullet coming in at ~950 MPH in the time it will take Bryan to pull the trigger very unlikely.

And there's an extra factor here as to why this wouldn't happen; Bryan would pull that trigger ASAP. If ANYTHING is shown in Taken besides Bryan Mills' perserverance, it is his quickness to react. He does not do the typical action hero move of letting the bad guy make a deal or do a monologue; Hell, he barely let's a single word escape the "final boss"'s mouth before popping him in the head. He would end the fight as fast as he could. You see, I do indeed think Twilight would win if this went beyond these first few stages. But it wouldn't.

So, in conclusion, I am under the firm belief that Bryan Mills would ultimately win this fight.

This is so against Bryan's personality that it hurts. I watched taken back when it premiered and have not seen it again, and I STILL remember that the dude does not act like that. Like...this couldn't possibly more wrong if you tried to argue Dumbledore casting Avada Kedavra or something. It's anti-character and you should feel bad for arguing this and voting on this basis. Your vote will still count, but it has a base that is BEYOND terrible.

This. He trades some of Bourne's agility and raw physical skills for more training and cold-bloodedness.

Bryan Mills BTW. Let's do this mercy.

Magic > man-made weaponry

Except:

1. Twilight always takes a few seconds to do whatever spell she's trying to do.
2. Transforming objects takes complete concentration on said object by both the transformer and the transformee.
3. There's no such thing as weaponry in MLP at all (Unless you count apple pies), so she's not even going to know what it is until it's too late (See: Rule 8)

He wasn't confused by a man dressed up like an Ottoman sultan, and didn't even let him finish his first word of his monologue before braining him.

If he knows he's in a fight (Which he does, according to what was just said), he's going to go for the win ASAP.

Yes I know, doesn't mean they can't be momentarily dumbfounded. Kinda like those fights in super tournaments where the guy comes out and sees a little girl with a lollipop. Sure he knows he has to beat her but doesn't mean he might not stand there for a few seconds going "....Really..what?" (then proceeds to get smacked through a wall by her)

but thats just my thoughts about it lmao.

I wish you'd see Taken; not only would it help in debating this fight, but it's also a damn good movie. Because he really isn't outwardly different than any other human.

Basically, you can't use the argument that she'll be hostile because he's a human, while he'll stand around dumbfounded because she's a horse.

Twilight Sparkle won't live through a gunshot, and he's going to just shoot it and get it over with immediately. I'd be much more inclined to believe if anyone's gonna be held up at all on attacking at first sight, it's the pony.

That, and shooting a bullet goes faster than casting a spell a lot of times.

Not really. The big advantage Ocelot has over Bryan is that he obviously won't miss if he shoots. But he's also very prone to monologuing, which we know Bryan loves abusing to put a bullet in your face. I could easily see Ocelot being caught off guard, and if Ocelot can't immediately kill him, it becomes a very even fight

Ocelot loves gloating, but he isn't dumb and he's a ridiculous gunfighter. He could legitimately shoot Bryan's bullets in midair and make them ricochet into his brains.

Anyway, I'm having trouble picturing this fight, because so much rests on why Bryan is here. If he were in a tournament to save his daughter, he'd just shoot the damn horse in the head a split second in. We've also seen what he does in other situations where the opponent was presenting a threat, like that dude with the knife at the concert (he grabbed him and broke his arm). So does he go in knowing Twilight Sparkle is a threat, and if so, how much of a threat? What's his motivation?

He knows he has to beat Twilight to win. What reasons he has for that are up to you. He has no info about what she can do. So basically, this post is two pieces fact and one piece interp, if that helps any.

Couldn't Twilight also uses Telekenesis and just screw him over. How good is his aim (assuming she didn't disarm him already) if he were being flung around.

Well, as far as disarming goes, remember, no prior knowledge of the opponent before the match, so again, she won't know what a gun is, and that it's even a weapon.

And even if the match went to the point where she could try this, she's never been show to use telekinesis on non-sleeping living thing, IIRC. If she could do that, why didn't she just use this power to wrangle her friends in the episode that came out this morning, as opposed to having her friends hold them down?

Urgh. Well, I'm gonna assume then that Bryan is approaching this like one of his CIA jobs. Meaning he'll do what he has to, although he probably won't go full on killbot mode unless his daughter is on the line

I could actually see him having a moment of confusion, at his goal being to beat a ****ing horse. Unfortunately, I don't really see Twilight Sparkle being ruthless enough to take advantage of that, and Bryan will recover and shoot her. Thanks for coming

Wow. Did not expect MLP:FIM to get a character in this contest. That said, looking at everything laid out here, Twilight Sparkle seems like the obvious choice, because magic > guns.
