Mostly because presentation and attitude actually matters when it comes to constructive criticism.
I know a lot of people don't like the coddled self-esteem stuff (and I don't either), but then I think that's made some people swing to the opposite end of the spectrum where they basically rip somebody's face off and treat them like garbage, and then call it constructive criticism. That's not much better.
