Anyway, have you spent any time doing mission mode Bob? It will allow you to get a better feel for the characters. If you are looking for some beginner friendly characters to go with Chun you could try Sentinel (Sentinel Force Charge assist), Hulk, or Wesker.
I haven't yet, I'll make that the next thing I do, thanks. I hear dirty things about Wesker though.
As far as that stick vs pad talk goes, are there any notable pad MvC3 players outside of Fanatiq?
