This speaks nothing of pretty much every girl being terrible at competitive games. If you've ever had a girl on your team in a MOBA, you know what I'm talking about.
I shouldn't have to tell you that this is a huge generalization. For the most part, it's true that if females are playing games like Starcraft, League of Legends, and Street Fighter, then they're not delivering or showing up to events because the amount of females sighted on stage in tournament play is closer to zero than it is to the double digits. But you have to ask why that is.
Personally, I think it's a combination of lack of willingness to actually help them improve against opponents who care to win and tournaments in general being dominated by male competitors, so would-be female players feel isolated or are straight up shut down when they express interest in competing. In lower levels of play, though, only the former is important.
