I don't think it has anything to do with the 'threat' levels of the system itself, it's more about not letting a competitor have the show to themselves. The WiiU has some cool ideas, but I don't know that it will have the same casual appeal of motion controls. Kinect 2.0 is probably going to pull in casuals more than a tablet controller, but that fight between Microsoft and Nintendo will be interesting. I think there's a good chance MS runs away with the American market, Nintendo in Japan, and then a battle for Europe between the three.
