MCV is a reliable source of info, and they claim their own sources on the rumor are 100% trusted, so I'm inclined to believe this.

"Both the Xbox 360 successor AND a follow up to the PS3 will be shown at E3 2012. The LA show tease will come as Wii U launch details are locked in – and should ensure no ground is lost between competing consoles."

"Microsoft has long been rumoured to detail its next-gen plans at E3 2012, and MCV's third-party publishing sources claim the firm had signalled to partners this will happen."

"But the real surprise is an early move from Sony. Execs at the PlayStation firm have made it clear to third-parties that they will not be left behind this time."

"Execs aren’t expecting price or launch details for the new Xbox or PlayStation. But their unveiling could be a perfect spoiler to the pre-Christmas launch date and price that will be revealed for Wii U in June."

Even if they're gonna release them in 2014 or later, I think this year definitely is the best time for them to reveal their consoles. Wii U was revealed, but literally nothing significant has been revealed ever since the controller. It still feels like just a concept to most people. If MS and Sony reveal now, it will prevent Wii U from getting to much of an early lead (even though they are technically a gen behind).

I think we're gearing up for 2013 to be the real start of the next-gen. Can't see anyone waiting until 2014 anymore, especially not Microsoft who is typically aggressive with things like this.

I wonder if that means MS and Sony see the Wii U as a genuine threat. At first I was like "a tablet controller?", but now I'm thinking it's an ingenious move, both from a game design perspective and (more importantly) as an appeal to the casuals. Thanks largely to the iPad, a lot of people are used to using tablets, and they're not close to as nerdy as controllers. I bet if they show Facebook, Twitter etc. apps running on the tablet that'll get the casual crowd interested. It's well known Nintendo likes to base their hardware around their software, so I'm sure EAD have some ideas for working the tablet screen into Mario and Zelda.

I'm gonna go and predict the Wii U will be a big success. Not like the Wii, but it'll do better than most expect.

I'm worried that Nintendo will end up pricing themselves out of the market. Wii went gangbusters partly because it was a more affordable alternative to the other two. Reggie has already admitted that WiiU will be "more expensive," and the way he's said it leads me to believe it won't be by a trivial amount. And with a tablet controller, you have to expect it. Will people really be willing to shell out $400-500 for a Nintendo console? This is new territory for Nintendo; they've also been the budget brand guys.

So it's gonna be filled with casual crap that sells millions, and the only good REAL games on it will be Nintendo first-parties?

That sounds kinda familiar...

I don't think it has anything to do with the 'threat' levels of the system itself, it's more about not letting a competitor have the show to themselves. The WiiU has some cool ideas, but I don't know that it will have the same casual appeal of motion controls. Kinect 2.0 is probably going to pull in casuals more than a tablet controller, but that fight between Microsoft and Nintendo will be interesting. I think there's a good chance MS runs away with the American market, Nintendo in Japan, and then a battle for Europe between the three.

Lame. I'm not really ready for the next gen yet. I'm just really finally settling into my PS3 and 360.

Oh well I'll wait awhile until they get all the launch kinks out and get them both after a couple of years probably. Or maybe I'll stop gaming and finally grow up this gen. Who knows.

I think the WiiU will be a success, but obviously not a Wii-level success.

I think the next gen will be a repeat of this gen where all 3 consoles are ridiculously successful, just the final placement ranking will shift.

Barring some drastic misstep, Microsoft should win Generation 8, and then it'll be a battle for 2nd between Nintendo and Sony depending on a lot of issues that we don't know yet at this time.

I wonder what Sony is going to do. MS is going to push Kinect and do well with the casuals. Ninty the Wii U and hopefully do the same, backed up by their first party. Sony can't be relying on the Move. I'd like to think they'd try to please the "hardcore" more than MS and Ninty, but it's unlikely. I also doubt the PSN will be free again next gen.

IT's essentially an xbox 360 with tablet. Should be $250-300 max. Not $350.

PS3 was $599 because of the ridiculously expensive Blu ray and PS2 chip. Nintendo cannot charge more than $300 for Wii U unless that tablet is $100 on it's own. There is NOTHING from the leaked specs i've seen suggests it should be that much.

Wii was $250 and even that was expensive. WiiU will be around $299 imo. Won't be anywhere near $399. You people are crazy.

$300 seems unrealistic. Apart from Black Friday deals and stuff, the standard Xbox 360 sells for around $300 now. The PS3 just dipped down to $250. Why will Nintendo price a more powerful brand new console with a tablet controller at just $50 more than current consoles? Remember, this is the same company that just launched a handheld for $250.

Although maybe the 3DS launch has made them approach WiiU's launch price more cautiously.

Yep. The 3DS launch will stay with Nintendo for a long time. The WiiU will likely have a reasonable price - whatever they determine that is versus the cost of the system - and it'll launch with some kind of first-party title, probably Mario.

In terms of what? from the evidence i've seen they don't even plan to have an internal HDD. An Xbox 360 without a HDD is about $149. The memory and processor isn't that much more powerful than 360 or PS3.

Bottom line is it runs current gen titles. That's what devs are making now.

For me the price is down to how much the Tablet is worth. If it's more than $300 then the tablet has to be in the region of $100.

360 is $300 with a 250GB HDD that costs about $100 alone. Wii U will support External HDD. It doesn't come with an external HDD.

I'd actually be surprised if they WEREN'T revealed at E3. I know Sony goes on and on about the 10 year cycle, and Microsoft has sold millions of Xbox 360s in America alone this November-December, and they still got Halo 4 for 360 this year...but I just feelthey are ready with some new systems.

E3 this year will be amazing, no doubt.

'Evidence.' We have a variety of rumors that are hard to glean much reliable information from. I can't imagine Nintendo will settle for 512MB of RAM or a GPU comparable to the 360 when there is better tech out there that is both practical and cost effective. You don't need to be bleeding edge to outdo the 360.
