Let's say it like this. If I'm playing FFXII and you take away my ability to cast stuff like Blind and Silence, I will slap you. With a frozen fish.
Enough things have elemental vulnerabilities to make offensive spells to be useful in various circumstances, especially with enemies that have various things that make them hard to hurt physically (or big enemies that you can spread out and spam spells against to help kite, or to dodge area of effect attacks, which makes some marks much easier at lower levels)
