Fox, Wolf, Falco, and Leon, I think. Leon might be iffy. I'm not sure what "go it alone" entails here. If it means "beat Andross solo at least 6 out of 10 times"? Then maybe just Fox. It's hard to tell how powerful Andross is supposed to be in a straight fight. Those four could all give him a good fight, though.
Peppy, not even in his heydey. James? I have no idea. He seems like a really smooth pilot during the ending sequence, but other than that we only see him when we control him during Command.
Setzer could totally do it. Setzer's probably a better pilot than Fox. You put Setzer in an Arwing, he probably solos Final Fantasy VI and every Star Fox game in one sitting.
