This. You pay a high premium to acquire a great center and they have perhaps the greatest impact on the game. Defensively they have the ability to alter the game completely and play the perimeter more effectively with less help on the interior. Offensively if they dominate and can pass decently they can kick out when they're double or tripled. And if played straight up can take it for an easy basket.
Guards and forwards are a dime a dozen. I could get someone like Calderon to run my point if I wanted. And just get other players who are good at defense, can shoot the ball and don't chuck like Kobe. Maybe get one athletic guard who has the ability to drive fearlessly to open up the defense.
