I feel bad for my father because his life had to end.
I haven't lost a parent yet (came close in '97 when my dad had an aneurism o_O), but when I lost my first grandparent last year I had some similar emotions... I had a hard time feeling sad on behalf of myself. I knew that I was sad, but my sadness for myself was hard to find in myself than my sadness for my grandma and for everyone else effected by it. I hope that makes sense.
I got most sad thinking about my grandpa, my dad and all my aunts and uncles and how hard it was. And even though I knew she'd lived a reasonably long life I can't help but feel sad for the things she didn't get to experience before her time was up. I'm going to have kids some day and they are never going to meet the sweetest woman in the world.
For me I just have to realize that she doesn't want me to be sad, not even for her and so I acknowledge that a sad thing happened, but I wont let it be debilitating anymore.
