He mentions his husband offhand early on and that's about it. If it was a straight dude mentioning his wife and trying to get over her death nobody would bat an eye. It's actually refreshing to see that in the ME universe, being gay isn't something that you have to hide. Nobody cares that he's gay and it's something he can talk about without having to use a euphemism like "partner".
