But as big a Mass Effect fan as I am, I will openly concede that the microwave scene is a top fifteen gaming moment for me whereas Shepard's walk feels like more of a standard-issue experience

The microwave scene in MGS4 was absolutely amazing. Even me, with my pro thumb skills, was annoying by the button mashing. But at the same time it actually got me more invested. Like I was seriously mashing triangle and yelling at Snake to keep going. I've never been that involved with a game before. It's annoying, yeah, but at the same time it's a great mechanic overall.
