You'll have to use a Renegade Interrupt to shoot The Illusive Man if you don't have a Paragon/Renegade string of dialogue options to use on him. Otherwise he'll kill you.
No s***? I hit the Renegade interrupt, obviously. If he kills you is it just a game over?
