People can't argue with a machine, so they'll have to just move over to the customer service desk at the end. 9/10 times self-checkout is more convenient and quicker for me. The only time it's inconvenient is when the produce item is missing a label and not in the system (has only happened one time with produce) or when I'm buying alcohol, since a person needs to check my ID. If a person can buy their own groceries and take them home, they can go through a self-checkout. Unless the user has a disability, it's a negligible amount of work to scan one's own items on the user's part. And, if someone has a disability, they could just ask for assistance. ...
