I dont like self checkout for these reasons: -if I'm buying alcohol, it takes forever for my ID to get checked -half the time, prices for goods at my grocery store aren't always updated in their system. takes forever to get someone to cross check with their catalogue, and then change prices -if I buy more than 10 things, a pop up will appear saying "Please wait for attendant to verify number of items" which is another wait
so, 9 times out of 10 I will wait in line and go to a cashier, especially for the price discrepancies because my budget is very tight, and the cashiers usually know that the price is wrong right away OR they have something at their register with all of the updated prices, so its a lot faster.
but I will say self checkout is great if you're only grabbing a couple of things. my grocery store has a deli inside, and they make prepackaged sandwiches, chicken tenders or wings meals, rotisserie chickens, fruit bowls...you name it. I'll stop there on my lunch break every now and then and use the self checkout. Cheap, healthy-ish, and faster than fast food drive thru.
1 and 3 are more of a "you " problem than a system problem.
If you're buying alcohol or more than 10 items... don't go to self checkout.
