It's not that.

Let me give you an example.

The Clayface intro episode in The Batman ends when he disguises himself as a normal civilian and disappears into a crowd, with the other characters remarking "He could be anywhere. He could be anyone." Which is kinda cool. Until the next episode, where now for all we know Batman is Clayface in disguise. Or Alfred. Or Yin. Maybe Robin, who is introduced two whole seasons later, is Clayface. Maybe there is no Robin. Because we now have a shapeshifter, we don't know anything for sure anymore, which does not appear to be the point of the work.
