Liu Bei doesn't quite age well either. He looked down on a general that he thinks he's completely overpowered and was hit with an unexpected attack, in which some versions say Zhuge Liang saw their camp formation too late and ordered the execution of whoever foolish enough to set up camp in such a way. Realizing it was Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang expected the defeat as well as Cao Pi's opportune attack and set up to cut their losses by allying with Sun Quan.

In general, Liu Bei's probably lost more battles that he was responsible for than he's won. He's probably one of the best in terms of cutting his losses and running away, but that's about it. His status and the fact that he's built himself up from nearly nothing did eventually get to his head, though he was quite old by this point. But yeah the quality of his people skills is pretty much never in doubt. He was if a character in a CRPG went all in on Charisma and nearly nothing else.
