| Topic | my mom voted for Trump |
| berlyman101 02/23/25 8:29:17 PM #1: | I heard her talking about Trump talking points on the phone with a relative. She was talking about saving from government waste and men playing women's sports. She was talking about her vote being a private thing. And when I brought this up, I also said "You told me you voted for Harris. Is that true?" And she said, "Actually, I voted for Trump." I asked why she lied to me. She had said she voted for Harris when she went to do it. I asked her why she lied and she said she didn't want to upset me. I told her I was disappointed she had lied. She said she wanted a change. I brought up that Trump's tax plans will cost her more, that he's basically a con man, that programs she's going to need like social security and medicaid are under attack and that I think she's going to regret it. Stuff I'd said before I knew she voted for him. But that it won't affect our relationship. I just sort of rubbed my forehead in resignation. I watched the last episode of Last Week Tonight (John Oliver) and she said she thought some of what Trump's doing is bad. I brought up the capitol storming and she just went "yeah..." She had spoken negatively about him before. Of course, it was usually when I was, too. I had sort of suspected this for a while. She seemed optimistic about him getting elected. When I heard her parroting the talking points it clicked. I feel bad that my mom is one of millions tricked. She asked me not to tell my sister so I guess now I'm keeping that secret from her. --- "They don't think it be like it is, but it do." -Oscar Gamble ... Copied to Clipboard! |
