There's a theoretically infinite amount, but getting to 999 moons requires you to buy a minimum of like 110 or 120. If memory serves, I did it without any dedicated coin grinding (I did have to do like an hour of grinding to get all the remaining costumes), but it's been a long time and I don't remember what nuance was involved in that. I beat DK on Friday and have been working through getting all the bananas there. It's a good time. --- This is my signature.
