Thoughts after Day One.

I know there's a fair few people who've complained about Hornet's down air attack, but...it really fixes every problem I had with Knight's stupid pogo. Like I just couldn't pogo reliably unless I used the long nail charm. The animation was super fast so the actual active frames when a pogo was possible was really tight, and Knight's horizontal movement when doing it was terrible. Call it a skill issue if you want, but it just didn't click for me.

Hornet's is a dash so it has tons of active frames and comes with lateral movement baked in. It's just better than Knight's pogo in every conceivable way. Well, there is one area where it's a little weaker, and that's when you want to bounce straight up and down (which some of the areas do kind of demand). But otherwise, this is a massive improvement. I am 10x less likely to just collide with the enemy doing Hornet's needle spike than I was with Knight's pogo. It's intuitive, it's fluid, it feels good to use. 10/10.

I think soon I'm gonna go back and take on some side quests / grind rosaries to buy stuff. I feel like by this point in Hollow Knight you definitely would have had an extra mask or two, possibly an extra spirit vessel. I've got...none of that. I'm weirdly okay with that though? It makes the game way harder to be sure, but I also feel like even this early on Hornet's offensive capabilities run laps around the Knight. But yeah maybe buying some trinkets from some of the stores will help me out.

I went to the (optional?) Ant area and yeah it's pretty tough. The ants aren't as hard as the birds I fought elsewhere but the birds had an easier runback, so I'll leave the the March alone for now. There's a "class" of enemy that seems really good at parrying. I've been calling them duelists, and regardless of which kind they are they're all really tough to deal with. Especially when other enemies are around.
