It’s easy to look at this match and say “gunship = instant win”, but I think it’s a lot closer than the writeup would imply.

First, let’s take the pilot into consideration – this isn’t Samus piloting her own ship, this is Rikku. How long she has had to adjust to the ship’s controls is open to interpretation, but she’s certainly not going to be an expert pilot by any means, especially without Samus there to help her. I give her enough credit to not horribly crash and die, at least, but hitting speedy moving targets may prove difficult and friendly fire from the rocket splash damage is a real possibility if she’s careless.

The main threat on my team is Lilith, and she’s a threat that I’m not convinced that the enemy team can deal with. Keep in mind that all buffs on her are doubled and Yuffie is here with a full compliment of spells, so the enemy team will have to handle a double Hasted/Barrier/etc. Siren that can stealth every few seconds at will. She also has Corrosive ammo on most of her weapons, which deals additional damage to vehicles – this directly affects the two biggest threats on the enemy team (Rikku and Liquid). Finally, Lilith is a Controller, which means her bullets have a chance to Daze enemies, reducing their movement speed and accuracy – this could make navigating the clouds difficult for the rest of the enemy team that’s stuck on foot.

She’s backed up by Cloud Strife, who’s more than a capable fighter on his own. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Advent Children, but Cloud has an extended aerial fight scene there, so he’s certainly no stranger to fighting in the air and maneuvering around. If Lilith can sufficiently distract the enemy team and he can close the gap between the two teams, he can inflict some serious damage, especially if he is able to Omnislash.

Terra is also here with Ultima, and is capable of nuking the enemy team if left unchecked. Finally, REYuffie is here to deliver buffs and be a generally competent mage (I give her more credit than Kirby, at least!).

The enemy team is capable, but individually doesn’t have anyone capable of taking down Lilith or Cloud if the gunship is taken down. This match is more than winnable for my team.
