Trump managed to figure out one of the only ways he could fire Comey and still do something illegal. The President can fire the director of the FBI for any reason or for no reason at all; had he said "I fired him because I didn't like how he did his hair," he would have been well within his authority. But Trump has said - flat-out, on tape - that he fired Comey because of the Russia investigation, then followed up with a vaguely threatening tweet that could be construed as blackmail. If Trump fired Comey because the latter was heading up the Russia investigation and said investigation was not going the way the President wanted (I.E. stopping entirely) and then attempted to stifle Comey from going to the press, that's grounds for an Obstruction of Justice charge (which, incidentally, was exactly what the grounds for impeachment were for both Nixon and Clinton). Even better, Trump may have gotten Jeff Sessions in hot water over this. There are reports that Sessions, Trump, and Rosenstein huddled to discuss the recommendation letter prior to its issue; if true - and if the Russia investigation came up at all in those discussions (and given that Trump himself has indicated that was the reason for the dismissal, it seems impossible that it wouldn't) - that would be Sessions involving himself in a matter in which he had previously recused himself. That is professional misconduct and would be grounds for disciplinary proceedings from the bar association that could potentially result in Sessions losing his license to practice law. --- Kill 1 man: You are a murderer.
