The Trump campaign was specifically warned by both Obama and Yates that Flynn was likely either an active agent of another country or at least could be blackmailed, and thus should not be trusted with state secrets. Choosing to appoint him in the face of this advice was a very unsafe decision that harmed state secrets and thus the safety of the nation.
