You can find similarly beautiful homes like what MuayThai85 bought, for roughly the same price and in nice neighborhoods. The difference is I didn't see any jobs that would pay you so muvh better than what the locals were getting. If you have Western currency like US dollars, it can go a long way. There are a bunch of retired Western expats enjoying their lives their now. Yea houses like these are well out of the price range of the average Thai but they are getting a much larger middle class now compared to the Philippines so more and more people are starting to be able to afford nicer houses. Teaching wages as a foreigner aren't great but we make a lot more than the Thais. Wages here are also higher for Filipinos. Lots of Filipino teachers here because of that. They make about 40% less than white foreigners but still make at least 50% more than the Thais. Great region to retire if you got a pension and shit coming in every month.
