I have heard dozens of remixes of this theme though so it seems to be a fan favorite for sure. It doesn't loop exactly but starts off slow and builds to a nice climax. I do think it's kinda short but it is just an intro so maybe I'm being too harsh or maybe I just wanted to hear more. I remember perfectly well the day that I put MM2 in my NES console for the first time. I was 9 and actually reset the game like 4 or 5 times in a row just to hear this kick a** theme.
