No shit if somebody came into your house randomly are you allowed to shoot them. My question was how likely is it some random dangerous stranger comes into your house vs how likely you are to use the gun for other things


I'm sure there is pure break-in statistics somewhere (and likely by state/city), but I recall seeing a study this year that says your chance of being attacked during a home invasion is literally almost 0%. So, while you may technically have a right to shoot someone invading your house, if you're keeping a gun for self defense, instead of home defense, you're wasting your time, money, and statistically, putting yourself and others in greater harm over something that might be as likely as getting struck by lightning, depending on where you live.

tl:dr: Home and self defense has, and always will be, a poor ass excuse for gun ownership, which is why most other countries don't allow this justification.
