During life, he lived in Eastern Europe in the 15th century around the same time chess was being made into its current form in Spain. There wouldn't be formalized rules for the game until the 19th century . He may very well have played a game that was similar to chess but as any chess player can tell you skill at chess does not make one a solid Go player.

More misleading slander from a self-admitted member (leader????) of the Anti-Plan Cabal. According to the history of chess wiki: "The popularity of chess in the Western courtly society peaked between the 12th and the 15th centuries." Alucard was awake towards the end of the 15th century so it is likely he was familiar with the game of chess and that this game of chess was much much more similar to modern chess than it was to Go. In fact a large amount of the rules of chess did not change since it was invented in India in the 6th century, how the king/knight/rook move, and most importantly the objective of the game. (And other changes like pawn movement came in the middle ages and modern bishop movement was present in Spanish court in the 13th century.) Regardless of whether or not he knows every single modern rule like en passant and castling, he still likely has some knowledge of chess which gives him an edge over someone with no knowledge. In fact knowing that his objective is to put his opponents King in checkmate gives him a tremendous advantage.

Although I guess the topic is probably over by now so whatevs
