for instance I find Aliens to be 'more entertaining' than Alien, but as far as which is the 'better' movie, well I'd have to give it to the original.

Ok, why? What makes that connection in your mind? Why is something that you enjoy more worse than something you don't?

I am being sincere here, I don't understand the logic you are attempting to use.

Alien captured a feeling, something hard to capture on screen. Not sure it has ever been matched tbh. Aliens I've seen like 20 times because I love the action scenes. If I was gonna sit down and watch one of the two again, I'd likely pick Aliens, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Alien is still a 'better' movie.

Another example is Terminator 1 and 2. I personally think the first Terminator is way more fun to watch, but when people say T2 is a better movie, well it is hard to argue because it really had a more developed story and had better cinematography.

Alien is more of a work of art and Aliens is a sci fi action flick. I like campy bullshit but I can appreciate art.

Ok, I understand that. And I won't argue the feelings movies can invoke because I'm sure we have all watched a movie that touched us emotionally. I do also agree that the way movies are shot and the soundtracks that accompany them are very important.

I personally don't have a super high standard for movies or video games, because as far as I am concerned they are an escape from reality and I just use them for fun. Music is something I am a little more snobby about but that's neither here nor there.
