The first trailer was poorly received, a lot to do with the female cast, a lot to do with the CG style, a lot to do with it not being Ghostbusters 3. Cast fires back calling those who didn't like it sexist and basement dwelling nerds and then it really went south. And then they gave us the Fallout Boy song and by then the shit had made its final pass before going down the drain.

I still haven't seen it yet but it's on STARZ so I'll catch it eventually.

my favorite is that in response to all the negativity about the female cast and claims of SJW agenda, they released another trailer that had even MORE dumb female / SJW jokes in it, and those jokes didn't even make any sense.

The one that stands out in my mind from the "improved" trailer is when they're jumping off the stage at a concert venue and the audience catches one woman but not the second woman. And she asks "Is it because I'm a woman or because I'm black", but it's A) a crappy joke and B) nonsensical because they obviously just caught a woman so why would they care if she's a woman? Also I don't think most normal people in 2017 in America would watch a scene of someone jumping into a crowd and the crowd not catching that person and then automatically assume it was because of the character's gender. I mean the trailer was highly indicative of the fact that there basically was no writing to the movie, it was just "ok this is a loud character and this is a tough character and this is the prissy character who doesn't want to break her nails".

The cast and crew's reactions to the internet hate just further cemented this. Instead of releasing a competent trailer that showed some other aspects of the movie that people might not complain about, they basically just did what your generic run of the mill internet troll would do and just kept posting more of the same.

you went on a video game forum full of nerds and said that the new Ghostbusters was just as good as the original which is not only a classic movie in general, but also has a huge cult following of nerdy people.

Even if you went on a movie forum and said the same thing it would be considered bait, because objectively the OG Ghostbusters is better than the new one.

It would be like me going on the Fangoria forums and saying Jason Takes Manhattan is better than the OG Friday the 13th. I honestly think that Jason Takes Manhattan is more entertaining, but 'better movie'? No, and I'm not gonna pretend it is.

Subjectively, if you find one more entertaining that is the better movie in your opinion. I don't honestly see how you can look at something you like less and say with a straight face that it is better.

I grew up with Ghostbusters and when I finally watched the new one, it was not any better or worse than the original two. If you disagree that's your opinion. I just did not think the hate it received was justified.

For me, it was the fact that it wasn't Ghostbusters 3. I know, kinda lame but I like the first 2, and Harold Ramis dying was it for me. The 3rd movie spent so much time in development hell and after Ramis died, so did the 3rd movie.

there is a difference in 'better made' and 'more entertaining'

for instance I find Aliens to be 'more entertaining' than Alien, but as far as which is the 'better' movie, well I'd have to give it to the original.

This doesn't apply to Ghostbusters at all though, because I agree with the reviewers on the 2016 remake. It really sucked. I tried to watch it on Starz, couldn't finish it, and I've stuck out A LOT of shitty movies.

There are qualities people look for when discussing movies, such as:
- Musical score
- Character writing (background, how they develop throughout the movie, etc.).
- Originality
- Plot development

The 2016 version of the movie just does not compare in a lot of aspects compared to the original based on standard scoring metrics.
I'm not going to say you're wrong for thinking the new movie is more entertaining than the previous one - that's your opinion. I am going to say you're wrong if you try to claim that the majority of jokes were original and well executed.

1) I like the first and second Ghostbuster film better than this remake.

2) Those metrics that you use are subjective and will differ from person to person. There's no way to objectively measure these metrics because art itself is subjective. Yes you can have a concensus that one film is better than the other, but objective means something to be fact like 2+2 will always equal 4. You can't do something like that with art.

First of all, I never said the new one was better. I just didn't think the hate it received was justified.

Secondly, what is more relevant in discussing movies that you may or may not enjoy than your own opinion?

Thirdly, is every single person to just accept the majority opinion and never like anything of their own accord?

Alien captured a feeling, something hard to capture on screen. Not sure it has ever been matched tbh. Aliens I've seen like 20 times because I love the action scenes. If I was gonna sit down and watch one of the two again, I'd likely pick Aliens, but that doesn't take away from the fact that Alien is still a 'better' movie.

Another example is Terminator 1 and 2. I personally think the first Terminator is way more fun to watch, but when people say T2 is a better movie, well it is hard to argue because it really had a more developed story and had better cinematography.

Alien is more of a work of art and Aliens is a sci fi action flick. I like campy bullshit but I can appreciate art.

Also, sorry for wording it like that I really wasn't calling you a CE troll critic so much I was just saying that he's not gonna find a paid movie reviewer that says 2016 is equal or better than the 84. Ghostbusters 2, maybe, because it wasn't very well received at the time anyway.

Ok, I understand that. And I won't argue the feelings movies can invoke because I'm sure we have all watched a movie that touched us emotionally. I do also agree that the way movies are shot and the soundtracks that accompany them are very important.

I personally don't have a super high standard for movies or video games, because as far as I am concerned they are an escape from reality and I just use them for fun. Music is something I am a little more snobby about but that's neither here nor there.

Great, you've recognized you don't have super high standards for movies... this might help you understand why so many people disliked the movie.

Imagine you went on a date with a girl who was missing half her teeth, was wrinkled to hell and back, and was missing an arm and a leg... and you thought she was the hottest girl ever. You're entitled to that opinion, but you'd also have to recognize that very few people would share your opinion regarding her physical attractiveness.

I've always known I don't have high standards for movies as my whole life I have watched movies that were "hated" and thought "this isn't THAT BAD." This topic was more about just wondering why it was so hated as it is rare for me to follow entertainment news because I don't like my first viewing to be compromised by other opinions.

Just to clarify on this, I don't think it's so much that I don't have high standards as much as it is that I don't allow certain things to ruin a movie for me as much as the average person.

Like I when I watch a B-horror movie, I am obviously not watching it for the cinematography or the writing but more for the fact that I know it's going to be lacking in those areas and I don't allow it to ruin the movie for me. Just like when I watch cheesy action flicks it certainly isn't for the acting, I watch movies for what they are and try to enjoy them as if they were in a vacuum.
