I know a fair bit of spoken language just from decades of anime and music. Not close to conversational level though, and the only character I know is "no."

I frequently consider learning the language, but I know how it's always frowned upon when people only want to learn Japanese just for anime/manga/games. But then I also think, who gives a crap what other people think, and if I want to learn Japanese, I'll do it.

Hey man, I know plenty of people that learned it exclusively from text hookers with japanese porn doujins so you just do you.
