Growling, hissing or spitting indicate a cat who is annoyed, frightened, angry or aggressive. Leave this cat alone. A yowl or howl (they sound like loud, drawn-out meows) tells you your cat is in some kind of distress—stuck in a closet, looking for you or in pain. Find your cat if they're making this noise.

As kittens, cats learn trills and chirps from their mother, who uses them to tell her brood to follow her. Kittens mimic the sounds, often in greeting or to get attention. As adults, cats use these sounds when greeting other cats or people. A cat trill usually means hello.

My cats use to make a chirping sound when zoning in on something to kill.

Our other cats meow a ton. The tortie chirps more than a bird, I swear.

We think the kitten may have been taken from momma too early.
