All mediums have pros and cons. Visual Novels are more akin to books than manga or anime. IMO, what they offer that other mediums don't, is that they have immersive audio/visual experience similar to anime, but prose akin to books. You really get into the heads of characters and detailing ideas, which anime/manga don't have time for.

It's fine to not like visual novels. I don't read books because I'm not inclined to read books, but I'm not saying books have no merits. You have to consider that visual novels and light novels are geared specifically for Otaku.



On another page, the Persona series is pretty unique, it's very much a game, but also very much a visual novel. This makes me think about Mass Effect series differently too, as it certainly has aspects of visual novels.
