I agree with both sentiment. Kimi no na wa's characters and plots are shallow, but it's still a cinematic masterpiece. It's no so much amnesia or time travel; They don't retain their experiences because it just felt like a dream to them. They don't time travel, it's shinto magic (explained by grandma) that connects everyone together

...sure, but it seems like they spend most of the movie remembering pretty much everything about the other, and then they sometimes just conveniently forget. and so do their cell phones apparently.

the most convenient explanation for everything is "shinto magic" but that doesn't make it any more satisfying. >_> Taki essentially went back in time to stop a disaster before it happened, smells like time travel to me.
