wouldn't canada be impacted even worse by the issues that make DST necessary to begin with? I kinda imagined the reason this ever gets traction in the US is that so much of the US is far enough south that it doesn't hurt as badly

Instead of depressing darkness at 5pm in Canada in say, December, there's more light for kids to play out in snow or whatever.

It would be darker in mornings, but if you're going to get up to start the school/work day, I don't really care about getting extra sunlight in the morning.
