And the problem with that is that it's a fucking sitcom. The show isn't just about the characters, the show IS the characters. Shoehorning in some character you don't meet until the last season, at the earliest, isn't ever going to be satisfying. There was no situation where everyone could be happy, and certainly they could have let the ending land better, but the idea of it being Robin and the little twist isn't the slap in the face people pretend it is. At least the mystery is resolved, at least there's a logic to the story, it could have been so much worse.

The interesting thing is that somehow they actually did manage to find a Mother who seemed to mostly live up to the hype. Which was why so many people got so pissed lol. I see what you're saying though.

But yeah the long ass gap between meeting the Mother and the story to the kids was always going to be awkward to work around and they never figured that out.

I'm most mad about undoing all of Barney and Robin's growth, separately and together. I'm not on the Ted's-the-worst train, but to me he's basically scaffolding for the show, whatever about him. But Barney especially learned a lot over the years, then lol nope

I was overall okay with that. Barney did grow. He reverts back to his old ways for a little bit after his divorce but ends up changing and maturing completely when he has a kid. I think all of that is relatable but yeah needed a lot more room to breathe after spending an entire season on their wedding.
