Afterwards she's always apologetic and says she doesn't mean it but they're her lifelong friends and always used to gossip. They don't like you so the social pressure to conform is too much for her.

There's not going to be any 'always' to it, because the first time shit like that happened I would dump her. Honestly, I'd probably just leave her at whatever gathering she's pulling this sort of abuse.

Publicly insulting, belittling, and degrading someone makes you a scumbag, no matter the reason.
