I saw someone point out the other day. If an adult has mental disabilities that mean they have the comparable maturity of a child, we don't tolerate hitting them for discipline because "it's all they understand" or whatever. And rightly so. You'd get arrested for abuse or assault. But do it to someone smaller and weaker and it's okay apparently. It's just about age. It's horrific.


Yep.

And notice how those same people tend to stop spanking around the time their kid becomes big enough to defend themselves. They'll still call a teenager a kid, but suddenly physical punishment doesn't sound so hot when their target can feasibly right back.
