This is objectively true. The pizza is mostly good even as far as Middletown. You can't throw a stone without hitting some local pizza joint around here (even dessicated de-industrialized husks like Bridgeport get it right). New Haven has many incredible pizza places even outside Pepe's, Sally's, and Modern. Oh, and Insomnia Cookies. They have outrageous cookies, deliver in the immediate area (alas, I am too far!), and are open to 1AM (there are like four universities in and around New Haven, you see).
