Though even then, the mental health and social supports people want to improve to prevent these issues would also help with the problems associated with coming from a criminal background, plus such a background should probably have kept him from buying a gun if he'd been properly assessed beforehand, so it's not even that effective a deflection. His parents being criminals probably was a factor, but that factor would be addressed by any of the gun control and mental health solutions people are calling for and bringing it up therefore doesn't actually avoid those discussions. --- This is my signature.
