had a criminal record? It came out that the shooter's mother had a conviction for writing a bad check. His father and grandmother also had a criminal record., it came out. Some said it was unfair to them, though.

what were the father's crimes? unless they were abusing or did a lot of illegal shit involving guns i don't see how this shit would be relevant. seems like a dirty tactic implemented to avoid the actual gun control and mental health issue.

They won't because the Supreme Court has ruled that the police are not obligated to help you.
Because our country is a garbage nightmare.

Congress would have to pass an amendment abolishing the Supreme Court, which they would then rule unconstitutional.

Though even then, the mental health and social supports people want to improve to prevent these issues would also help with the problems associated with coming from a criminal background, plus such a background should probably have kept him from buying a gun if he'd been properly assessed beforehand, so it's not even that effective a deflection. His parents being criminals probably was a factor, but that factor would be addressed by any of the gun control and mental health solutions people are calling for and bringing it up therefore doesn't actually avoid those discussions.

Seems more like a means to point out that civilized gun control measures would have prevented someone who lives in the same household as people with criminal records from being able to own a gun.

Especially buying a gun with a credit card that he just got. How the fuck is that even allowed?

It's what Republicans love to do, blame the parents for something unrelated to what the child did. (See Joe and Hunter Biden)

They do the same thing whenever a cop shoots someone. "Oh, that 12 year old stole a pack of gum from the store, so it was OK for the cop to blow him away."

What does writing a bad check have to do with owning a gun?

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia

In a 43 decision, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals affirmed the trial courts' dismissal of the complaints against the District of Columbia and individual members of the Metropolitan Police Department based on the public duty doctrine ruling that "the duty to provide public services is owed to the public at large, and, absent a special relationship between the police and an individual, no specific legal duty exists". The Court thus adopted the trial court's determination that no special relationship existed between the police and appellants, and therefore no specific legal duty existed between the police and the appellants.

Oh yeah, theres multiple cases. Police were sued over an earlier school shooting where a guard office hid for 50 minutes. Thrown out.

Or the police refusing to do anything about a restraining order which led to the father killing all of his kids.

More often than not, "To serve and protect" refers to police being bootlickers of companies. They'll protect a privately-owned commercial building before protecting the public.

And in the US a lot of police departments are private entities that work for counties or states and exist primarily only to fund themselves.

They quite literally dont work for the people they are policing. They see them only as threats or piggy banks.
