I didn't do this myself, but I witnessed it happen to a colleague of mine...
I work in a toy shop, so you can imagine the customers: picky mums with screaming little brats at their side. One of these mums decided she wanted a discount on something because the box was slightly mishapen (probably her brat kid whacked it around). It's against our policy to reduce anything if it is in an adequate condition and the product is fine, and I watched my colleague calmly explain this. The woman literally screamed at her without warning, hurling verbal abuse and accusing her of trying to steal her money.
I should mention at this point that my colleague is a little old lady in her 60s.
It really shook her up and she left the tillpoint crying, the woman still calling abuse after her. It's moments like that which make me hate working in retail!
TL;DR Customer made an old woman cry because she couldn't get her way.
